Geelong Gallery Commission
I have made a collection of tiny ceramic chair sculptures inspired by French Impressionist Claud Monet in conjunction with the opening of Geelong Gallery’s latest major exhibition, Discovering The Impressionists.
When the GG team reached out to me to make this collection I was so excited to explore a different method of mark making to create these tiny painterly heirlooms. I really leaned into a more gestural, intuitive way of applying the glaze to create movement and texture which was a very relaxing way to work.
I also wanted to pay homage to the paint covered surfaces of an artist’s studio and made a few painter’s chairs to complement the floral motifs in the collection. I am really happy with the results.
These pieces are exclusively available at Geelong Gallery for the duration of the exhibition which runs from June 20 to October 11. More information can be found of the Geelong Gallery website.
