Anagama Archives
I am so excited to share the details for my solo exhibition ‘Anagama Archives’ happening this October at Warrandyte Pottery in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. This collection of work spans a total of four months broken up over the course of two years during two separate trips to Japan to participate in firing an Anagama wood firing kiln.
National Emerging Art Prize
I have just completed a new chair sculpture and have entered it into this year's National Emerging Art Prize.

I went to Japan on an Artist Residency
In 2022 I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Japan before the borders opened (crazy how long ago lockdowns seem now!) to undertake a six week artist residency in the countryside of Gunma prefecture, Japan with seven other artists from around the world.

Coming up this October for Craft Contemporary
I am excited to announce that I will be part of two group exhibitions this October as part of Craft Victoria’s 2022 Craft Contemporary festival line up.
Craft Contemporary (1–31 October) is Craft Victoria’s annual festival amplifying the practice of craft in a state-wide gathering of talks, live demonstrations, exhibitions and more. Contemporary expressions of craft are explored within gallery, retail, educational and public spaces, calling attention to its ubiquitous and engaging presence.
Victorian Health Promotion Awards 2022
Late last year I was approached by VicHealth to create eight trophies for the 2022 VicHealth Health Promotion Awards.
Crashing into 2022 like.....
So, 2021 certainly feels like a distant dream (or maybe nightmare?) now! Seems like everyone is already full steam ahead into 2022. We’re all trying to hype ourselves up to go back to work even though we’d all rather be relaxing and spending quality time with friends and loved ones for a tiny bit longer.
How It Went: Craft Contemporary Virtual Open Studios 2021
I was lucky enough to be part of the Craft Contemporary Virtual Open Studios on October 16th hosted by Craft Victoria. This was so much fun and because it was an online event, it gave me the opportunity to connect to a wider audience and share my studio space and practice.
Craft Contemporary 2021 Virtual Open Studio
I’m very excited to announce that I am part of Craft Victoria’s Virtual Open Studio line up as part of the Craft Contemporary Festival 2021! Join me in the (virtual) studio on October 16th at 11am!
The Home Studio Vol. 2 Tools Of The Pottery Trade
In this article I’ll take you through the different types of tools I use in my studio and their purpose. This is a great resource for beginning your collection or building on your existing tools.
I’ve asked a handful of local creatives to share their favourite tools as well!
Connecting With Others Through Clay
After all of these lockdowns it’s easy to feel isolated and starved of face to face human connection.
I want to be able to provide others with the opportunity to connect with people they wouldn’t normally be able to connect with, have fun while not scrolling their phones and to take a mental health break from life in general even if it’s just for a few hours. For me, offering workshops is all about the connection with others. Of course you’re learning new skills and being creative which I absolutely love, but I get the most enjoyment out of seeing you guys have a blast and take some time for you. I’ve got some fun hand building workshops coming up in September suitable for complete beginners so if you’ve been thinking about taking a class, this is your sign!
The Home Studio Vol. 1 Where Do I Start?
Let me paint a picture for you. You’ve done a few terms at your local pottery studio and you know your way around the wheel fairly well. OR, you’re a keen hand builder and you’re starting to get serious. You love your weekly class but you’re itching to get more time to practice what you’ve learnt or to just be creative so you decide that you’re going to set up a space at home. Where do you begin? Firstly, congrats! That’s so exciting that you’re ready and keen to take your practice to the next level. I bet you’re thinking “Help?!” It can be a lot to wrap your head around but I’ve got you covered. I’ll take you through studio safety, storage, clay recycling, tools, glazing and much more! But today I’ll give you an overview of the essentials to get you started.
Learn to throw "off the hump".
So I bet you’re thinking, “What the heck is throwing off the hump?” Well, it’s a Japanese method of making pots on the pottery wheel from a large mound of clay. This method of throwing differs from the western style of throwing where we measure out our balls of clay and throw directly onto the wheel. Throwing off the hump offers a chance to be a little more experimental with our forms and allows us to make multiple pieces from the same mound of clay.
Hand building workshops just listed for June, July and August
So, here we are in May already and Mother’s Day is upon us! If your mum is one of those people who has everything already and you’ve been scratching your head thinking, “what the heck can I get mum this year??” why not book her in for a hand building workshop experience? You could even book a spot for yourself as well! Its a fun way to spend some quality time with mum and you’ll have something special to remember the experience. What a great gift to give your mum!
Back In Action
After a very unpredictable 2020 and a slightly rocky start to 2021, I am happy to be back and active in the Melbourne ceramics community (and broader Australian ceramics community) again. After quite a long break I’m so excited to share that in addition to expanding and developing my personal practice, I am now hosting hand building workshops around Melbourne and I can’t wait to share my knowledge and skills with you all.
